Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Orange Bracelet Program
Information, the required paperwork and orange plastic DNR Bracelets are available by contacting the NHACEP Office. NHACEP has been involved with this program for many years enabling patients who have signed DNR’s to have them acknowledged and if Emergency Medical Services are called to make sure comfort care is provided. These bracelets are distributed to visiting nurse agencies, hospice agencies and primary care physicians. They are not given to individuals.

The bracelets are intended for terminally ill patients in the home or nursing home setting who have less than 6 months’ life expectancy. They have a hand raised in the stop signal to alert emergency medical providers that the patient wishes to have comfort care measures only, and that the patient wishes for no heroic efforts. The bracelets are intended to be a step beyond the Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare a visible sign that states the patient’s wishes.
